Our hope is that they will participate in the blessing and keep true values in their married life, regardless of their religious affiliation. Also, members who have been unable to find a match within the church may consider someone of another faith. My own husband was Catholic when we got blessed; he now has a wonderful heart of devotion to True Parents. Let's make it possible for others! We will have a singles meeting on October 3, 2010, near Gimpo, Korea. The war began on 25 June 1950 and an armistice <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armistice> was signed on 27 July 1953. During the war, both North and South Korea were sponsored by external powers, thus facilitating the war's metamorphosis from a civil war <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_war> to a proxy war <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_war> between powers involved in the larger Cold War.

Tension Is High On the Korean Peninsula

Today there is constant tension on the Korean Peninsula and a “state of war” still exists between North and South Korea, with a “truce” only in place. Incidents such as the recent sinking of a South Korean naval vessel and make it all the more imperative that the “door of dialogue” be kept open between these two countries. Under previously Presidents’ Kim Dae Jung and President Roh; a ten year period of peace and stability was in place that effectively took war off the table. With the inauguration of President Lee two years ago; who promised a “get tough on North Korea approach”; tensions have simmered for two years over a number of small but violent incidents. The current sinking of the South Korean ship (North Korea denies it had anything to do with it) has brought the two countries closer to war than anytime since 1953.

The Wholistic Peace Institute Has a Strategy That Can Reduce Tensions

This year the Institute’s Summer Peace Institute will be held on September 21st (the official United Nations day of Peace; when the armies of the world are asked to put down their arms and stop the killing for 24 hours) on the Concordia University campus and will ask Peace, Asian, Korean scholars from all over the world to offer papers and presentation on: “New Solutions to De-escalate the tension on the Korean Peninsula”. Keynote speakers: Madame Lee, the Former First Lady of South Korea and Chief of the Kim Dae Jung Peace Center in Seoul; and President James Kim of Pyongyang University. The Wholistic Peace Institute’s (WPI) strategies are:
1.	The WPI will take the best and the brightest ideas offered at the September 21st conference and compile them into a book and then spend the next year in New York at the United Nations, where the South Korean and North Korean UN Ambassadors reside dialoging on the respective countries following some of the ideas. The WPI will also spend that year in Seoul, talking to government officials and in Pyongyang, North Korea talking to government officials as well at Pyongyang University.
2.	Will convene a large Nobel Peace Laureate Conference at Yanbian University in Yanji, China inviting Chinese, North Korean, and South Korean officials to listen to, participate in and discuss the Nobel Peace Laureate ideas for resolving the Korean Conflict and exchanging ambassadors with a formal peace treaty.
3.	The Executive Director will continue to act as a mediator of the conflict in his multiple roles as: Board of Trustees of Pyongyang University, North Korea; Board of Trustees of Yanbian University, China.

PEACE

Gary Alan Spanovich, Executive Director
Wholistic Peace Institute-Nobel Peace Laureate Program
An Independent Center At Concordia University
2811 NE Holman Street; Portland, Oregon 97211
Office Phone: 503-493-6294; Office Fax: 503-280-8522
Gary’s Cell: 503-314-5955
Located in Luther Hall; Outside Entrance On North Side
garyspanovich@wholisticpeaceinstitute.com <mailto:garyspanovich@wholisticpeaceinstitute.com>
www.wholisticpeaceinstitute.com <http://www.wholisticpeaceinstitute.com>
